respiratory disorders

Respiratory disorders encompass a broad range of conditions that affect the respiratory system, which includes the lungs, airways, and respiratory muscles. These disorders can be acute or chronic, ranging from mild to severe.

Here are some common respiratory disorders:

Asthma: A chronic condition characterized by inflammation of the airways, leading to recurrent episodes of wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath.

Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD): A group of disorders causing inflammation and scarring of the lung tissue (interstitium).

Pulmonary Embolism: Blockage of a pulmonary artery by a blood clot, usually originating from the deep veins of the legs (deep vein thrombosis).

Lung Cancer: Abnormal cell growth in the lungs, often associated with smoking but can also occur in non-smokers.

Cystic Fibrosis: A genetic disorder causing the production of thick and sticky mucus, leading to lung and digestive system problems.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA): Repeated interruptions in breathing during sleep due to a temporary collapse of the upper airway.

Bronchiectasis: Chronic dilation and damage of the bronchial tubes, leading to recurrent infections and inflammation.

Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS): Common in premature infants, RDS results from insufficient surfactant in the lungs, causing breathing difficulties.
